Boudoir photography is a specialized area of photography that focuses on capturing a person’s more intimate side. At Katrina Cross Boudoir, boudoir photography is the celebration of strong, powerful women. Boudoir focuses on highlighting and embracing a woman’s entire body for exactly what it looks like at that moment in time. Boudoir photography is meant to inspire and empower women to embrace exactly who they are and appreciate their body for what it looks like at this moment and all that it can do.
What is the purpose of a boudoir shoot?
Many women think that they should only do a boudoir shoot if they want sexy images of themselves for for a significant other. While this is definitely a perk of boudoir, it is not the ONLY reason to treat yourself. A boudoir experience is exactly what it sounds like: an experience. It is a time to put yourself first for once, it is a time to see yourself in a whole new light and find confidence you didn’t know existed, it is a time to celebrate yourself and your body.
Because boudoir is a more intimate experience, many women also think they need to get into the best shape of their lives. That is definitely not the case! I encourage women from all walks of life to embrace their body for exactly what it looks like right now. Whether you are a bride looking a wedding gift, an expecting mama looking to remember your pregnancy in a unique way, a postpartum mama trying to celebrate all that your body has done to grow a human, a woman who has spent too many years hiding her body because society’s standards does not deem it to be “perfect”, or just a woman looking to treat herself to something besides a bubble bath and a glass of wine, boudoir is for you.
What happens at a boudoir shoot?
When you first inquire about a boudoir experience, you will have a one-on-one meeting with me, your trusted boudoir photographer. I will walk you through outfit ideas and everything you can expect for the day. I want you to come in feeling relaxed and ready for your session, not anxious about the unknowns. Please ask all your questions during our meeting!
When the day of your boudoir experience arrives, you need to be ready to be pampered! If you would like to get your hair and make up done prior to getting your picture taken, I can help arrange that! I work with hair stylists and make up artists that are very close to my studio. We can book you an appointment for hair and/or make up. Some women feel most confident if they are fully glam for the day, and some women prefer to go with a very natural look. Either way, we can make it happen!
Once you arrive at my studio, the celebration begins! You will get dressed in an outfit and the photographing will start! During your session, I am your biggest cheerleader. I handle every last detail, from how you should pose your body down to how you should breathe. Think of something you really want captured? Let me know and we’ll do it. Not loving a certain pose? Let me know and we’ll change it. I am here to serve you. We are going to chat like old friends as I work my magic to capture images that make you feel empowered and confident. You won’t even realize how quickly time goes by!
At the end of your session, we will wrap up and I will give you a timeline for viewing your images. The wait between your session and viewing your gallery is usually the hardest part. I promise you that you will leave my studio more confident than when you walked in, even before you see the amazing images!
What do you wear to a boudoir photo shoot?
It’s your session, and you need to wear what makes you feel good! When you feel good, your confidence shines through. If you feel most sexy in lingerie, then wear it! Some women prefer traditional two piece lingerie sets, while some prefer the body suit look. If you feel most sexy in an off the shoulder sweatshirt or an oversized t-shirt, then wear it! Some women also love to wear a sexy robe for their session. The options are endless! Confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear, so just make sure to choose something that makes you feel proud of your body. After you book your boudoir session with me, I will send you a video with wardrobe tips to help you plan the perfect outfits for your experience.
What should I do with my boudoir images?
One of the things holding women back from doing a boudoir experience is that they don’t know what they would do with the images once they have them. Many women think that they would never print intimate pictures of themselves. This tends to be quite the opposite with my clients! I offer pre-orders for my print products. Most of my clients pre-order an album. If you choose that option, you will only need to select which images you would like to place in your album.
After viewing images, many women also order at least one large piece of wall art to display. Talk about a boost in confidence! Imagine being able to look at one of your boudoir pictures hanging on your wall and thinking, “That’s me! I really did that and I look sexy!” Everyone deserves to have pictures that make them feel proud of their body. I encourage you to take those images and print them. Printing the images brings a lifelike feel to them that cannot be captured behind a phone screen!
